Route Map
This walk does require a short walk on the road itself, and can be quite muddy after heavy rain!
From the park and ride stop, head south then walk left along the path by the waste management site.
Head along Pontefract Road towards Newsam Green farm. There is no proper path here, you will need to briefly walk along the road through the narrow traffic lights section. Just after the traffic lights there is a road on your left to Newsam Green farm, and the entrance into the old landfill site straight after it. Just after these there is a green strip path at the side of the road.
Follow this path past the electricity pylon, and the horse gate. There is a path here up the hill through the middle, or you can keep going further on to the end for a longer loop.
You should reach a section where you can head right uphill towards a bridge over the motorway into Temple Newsam estate. There’s a large open field on the left just before the bridge (sometimes livestock in adjacent fields) and a small woodland area known as Parkinson’s Wood through another field on the right.
If you want to do a much longer loop, the path over the bridge heads up towards the top of The Avenue by Bullerthorpe Lane. From there you can head down towards Temple Newsam House and straight down to the estate from there!
If you don’t want to head over the bridge, you can just walk back down the hill, past Newsam Green farm, and back through the traffic light section.
