A mile-long Christmas light trail through the Temple Newsam grounds, running every evening from 20 November to 31 December. Entry is by timed ticket only, booked online, and the date and time can be changed free up to 24 hours ahead. Book by 31 October with code LIGHTS20 for 20% off; there’s no resident discount. Popular weekend slots sell out.

Walking from the estate via the underpass takes 10–15 minutes and the route stays open in the evening, but it’s unlit, so bring a torch. Residents who walked last year say the trail entrance is on the far side of the estate from us, so allow extra time.

This year’s trail is “The Lost Light of Christmas”: follow the fairies through the woods to find the light, with a Christmas village of food, drink and fairground rides.
