Halloween at Temple Newsam

Half-term Halloween activities across Temple Newsam, daily from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, 10:00am – 5:00pm. Pick up a trail sheet for the quizzes and activities in the Farm, Play Barn, House, Walled Garden and Golf Activity Park. The pumpkin carving on Wednesday 28 October, 1–3pm, is free and needs no booking — bring your own pumpkin, ideally hollowed out already, and the gardeners will help carve your design. If you sowed one in the Walled Garden back in April, come and carve that instead. Junior Ghost Walks run on 28 and 31 October and must be pre-booked separately. For older visitors, Cellar Scares is a 20-minute actor-led tour of the house cellars (every day except Monday 26 October, from 11am): £5 extra per person on a house admission ticket, pre-booking required, ages 12+ only, under-16s with a paying adult. Stairs only, dark and uneven, with strobe lighting and jump scares.

The farm gets silly skeleton scenarios, spooky displays and seasonal colour, with a pumpkin trail and self-led crafts in the Joiner’s Shop where children can make paper-chain skeletons. There are farm animals to meet and a selfie station in the Play Barn entrance courtyard, and the Walled Garden gets an autumn makeover with a pumpkin-themed fact trail set among the chrysanthemum collection.
