Big Butterfly Count

Join Butterfly Conservation to take part in the Big Butterfly Count, the annual nationwide butterfly survey that anyone can join.

Suitable for all ages and abilities, with no prior knowledge needed. To book, use the access code WILDSPACES on the event page. It helps to download the Big Butterfly Count app on your phone beforehand, but it isn’t essential.

You’ll learn how to identify butterflies and how to complete the survey, then continue around the site to look for other wildlife. Part of the Leeds Wild Spaces Project, through which Butterfly Conservation — in collaboration with Leeds City Council — has established a one-hectare wildflower meadow at Temple Newsam.
