A family-friendly walk to detect bats on the Temple Newsam estate.
The guided walk is approximately 2 miles, reasonably accessible and mostly on tarmac paths, finishing back at the house at about 10:00 PM — families with very young children may want to make it shorter. Booking essential — book on Leeds Ticket Hub.
Meet in the courtyard for tea and biscuits. There is a 30-minute natural history slide talk followed by a quiz and some videos, then an introduction to the use of bat detectors before setting off. The route covers a variety of roosting and feeding habitats; in the past, about five species of bat have been encountered engaged in a variety of natural behaviour.
